ft. ‘Ginny and Georgia’ & Chocolate Oatmeal Bars

Happy Friday and happy Women’s History Month! We’re steadily approaching our Quaranaversary. As you ponder all the things you said you’d do with this time at home, but never did and mourn the office plant that’s still shriveled up on your desk, don’t be too hard on yourself. Whether you spent this past year finally catching up on Lost, learning how to do that one hobby you’d always wanted, or really can’t recall what you’ve done for the last 12 months of your life, we’re in it together! So in the wise words of my favorite Parks and Rec characters and perhaps of all time, treat yo self this weekend — you deserve it!

However you’re planning on spending your weekend, enjoy these quarantivities!

‘Ginny & Georgia’

Watch this regardless of the T Swift drama:

I may be a week late to this, but frankly, this show is so good that I can’t NOT suggest it. And by good, I should probably warn you that I don’t mean “this should win an Emmy” good, but rather, “once you start you won’t be able to stop until it’s 3AM and you should really, really go to bed, but you tell yourself just ONE more episode” kind of good. For those of you who haven’t already binge-watched your way through Ginny & Georgia, it centers around a young mother and her daughter (Georgia and Ginny, respectively), and their Gilmore Girls-esque relationship, as they navigate everything from first boyfriends to a very pissed off ex that’s convinced Georgia murdered her husband. Casual!

Desperate for a fresh start and wanting a Better Life™  for her two kids, Georgia moves the whole fam (Ginny and her brother Austin) to a quaint cookie-cutter town in Massachusetts. It’s all very scenic and American dreamy — as Ginny aptly quips, “I’m living in a Crest commercial,” but it’s not long before Georgia’s less-than-peachy past begins to surface, threatening to upend it all. It’s the aforementioned Gilmore Girls vibe, but also part-Ozark-part-Hart of Dixie-part-Every Popular Show You’ve Ever Seen. It’s important that you know going into this show that it is, by every respect of the phrase, doing the most. It defies genres and refuses to be boxed in by categorizing itself as merely dramedy or crime fiction. It’s like going to the ice cream store and being so unsure of what you’re craving that you end up sampling every flavor and by then you’re so full that you leave with nothing. So will it win any awards? Probably not. But then again, in a world where Emily in Paris was nominated for a Golden Globe, who knows?? What I do know is this: You must watch Ginny & Georgia, immediately! Because sometimes, you don’t just want vanilla ice cream, or chocolate, or mint chip — you want all of the flavors.

‘Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry’

Watch to become a Billie Eilish stan:

PSA: This is now a Billie Eilish fan account. I finished Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry last night and I literally have not stopped listening to her album since. Shot by filmmaker R.J. Cutler, the doc follows Billie on her road from (literal) bedroom producer — well, her brother Finneas does most of the producing, but more on him later — to international superstar. It’s a deeply intimate look into the young singer’s life and, in the wake of the Britney Spears doc, a reminder of how harsh the world of teenage stardom can be. There’s a particularly heartwarming scene where Billie meets Justin Bieber for the first time and breaks down in tears, because, as she explains earlier, he was her first “true love.” Same, girl. Who could have resisted that hair flip back in 2009?? After, the Biebz messages Billie to remind her to “enjoy this moment” and even Facetimes her later on to congratulate her for sweeping the Grammys. You know, just teenager things, NBD.

It’s easy to forget that this person with millions of Instagram followers and who’s playing the main stage at Coachella is not only just a person, but an 18-year-old girl with your typical 18-year-old girl problems. For example, yes, she’s playing the main stage at Coachella, but all she cares about at the time is that her boyfriend Q spends time with her at the festival, since she got him and his friends free tickets. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t matter how famous you are, douchebags will be douchebags. Stars — they’re just like us! If Q is the unofficial villain of the movie, then Finneas is the unsung hero. Not only is he the mastermind behind the majority of Billie’s music, but he also acts as the level-headed foil to her teenage angst. When Billie is too hard on herself and yells that her “voice sucks” and that she “HATES songwriting, he relentlessly reminds her just how talented she is and is the drive behind finishing literally any song on time. He’s the big brother everyone wishes they had and their dynamic is honestly reason alone to watch. If you weren’t an Eilish fan before, I guarantee you will be after.
