ft. ‘Made for Love’ & Crispy Black Bean Tacos with Cilantro Lime Sauce

Happy weekend and Happy Taylor Swift Day! (More on that later.) The sun is shining, COVID cases are down, and Reese’s Peanut Butter eggs are now half off at CVS. Nothing could get me down today! I purposefully didn’t include a book below to inspire you all (mostly myself) to take advantage of this fab weather and go outside. Realistically, I’ll probably spend it binge-watching the shows below while eating my stockpile of 50 percent off Easter candy, but hey, a girl can dream.

However you’re planning on spending your weekend, enjoy these quarantivities!

‘Made for Love’

Watch this to give an all-new meaning to Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”:

Too much technology = bad. In the era of shows like Black Mirror and Westworld, we as viewers are now all too familiar with this theme. Sure, having your watch be able to track when you have a good night’s sleep is cool and all, but what happens when that watch becomes sentient and decides to take over the world?? Okay, so maybe that’s a stretch, but in HBO Max’s new sci-fi thriller Made for Love, we are once again faced with this modern dilemma: How much technology is too much technology?

Starring Palm Springs‘ Cristin Milioti, Made for Love‘s dilemma isn’t really a dilemma at all, for in the show, Milioti plays a woman who’s on the run from her controlling, tech-billionaire husband. What makes him so controlling, you ask? Well, he only implanted a microchip in her brain without her consent that allows him to read her thoughts and see everything she does, of course! NBD! And suddenly, my Apple Watch taking over the world doesn’t sound so bad anymore…Anyway, it’s obviously pretty clear that in this universe, things have, in fact, gone too far. The real question here then is, as cunning as Milioti may be — she at one point places a cheeseburger bag over her head so hubby can’t see where she’s going — can she outsmart technology? The next three episodes dropped on HBO Max yesterday, so you’ll have to watch to find out!

‘The Irregulars’

Watch this if you love an “irregular” take on a classic:

Photo: Netflix

We’ve got another Sherlock Holmes adaptation, folks! The Irregulars is Netflix’s latest take on everyone’s favorite ultra-sleuth but, similarly to Enola Holmes which came out late last year, Sherlock is sidelined, with the show’s spotlight instead on a gang of misfit teens. After one of the teens begins exhibiting signs of ~psychic powers~ they’re approached by Sherlock’s associate Dr. Watson, who claims that “a darkness has come to London” and only they can help him stop it.

*Shocker* Everything is not as it seems, however. As the group gets increasingly entwined in the investigation, they soon discover that Dr. Watson may not be the good guy he claims to be. Add in a love triangle, a casual rip between this world and the great beyond, and a Sherlock with a substance addiction, and you’ve got me hooked! The show may have gotten mixed reviews from critics — including my mom who may be the only person in the world who watches more TV than me and whose opinion I USUALLY agree with — but I don’t care! I will die on this hill! If you love anything mystery with a side of paranormal, give The Irregulars a go this weekend. And when you decide that you love it, do me a favor and let my mom know how wrong she is about this one.

Stream it via Netflix.

‘Fearlessby Taylor Swift

Listen to this if you’re a T Swift stan and proud:

Happy Taylor Swift Day! After years of battling with Scooter Braun and Shamrock Holdings over the rights to her master recordings, Swift has made her ‘Fearless’ return with the release of her re-recorded second studio album Fearless (Taylor’s Version). Featuring newly recorded versions of the original 19 tracks, as well as her 2010 hit “Today Was a Fairytale,” and six unreleased songs “From The Vault,” the album is just the thing you need to kick off a weekend of soaking in some sun, driving down PCH, crying in your shower, or whatever it is you choose to do with your time off! So, what are you waiting for? Throw this on, reminisce about old lovers who’ve scorned you, and party like it’s 2008!
