ft. Holidate & Feel-Better Chicken Soup

We made it to the end of the week and yet, it’s still election day. Will this ever end? What is Nevada doing?? I guess what happens in Vegas really does stay in Vegas… It feels like the week in-between Christmas and New Years — I have no idea what day it is or what’s going on and I haven’t changed my pants in days. Thankfully, though, Steve Kornacki apparently has. Seriously, what did we do to deserve that man? Speaking of Christmas, the queen has spoken, and it’s officially time.

However you’re planning on spending your weekend, enjoy these quarantivities!

‘Holidate’

Watch this if you’re ready for the holidays:

Need a break from staring at MSNBC and the four other live poll calculation tabs you’ve been feverishly refreshing since Tuesday? Enter Holidate, Netflix’s latest rom-com starring Emma Roberts and the steamy Luke Bracey. The two meet in line while Sloane (Roberts) is returning a Christmas gift and soon discover that neither of them has someone special to spend New Year’s Eve with. Sloane is sick of her family getting on her case about her singledom, and Jackson (Bracey) is fresh out of a break-up. They both want the same thing: a plus one for the holidays, without the complications of an actual relationship. And so, the “holidate” is born.

Anyone who’s ever seen any romantic comedy will see where this is going from the first five minutes, which is precisely why this is the movie we all need right now. There is no “too early to call” in Holidate, nor is there a need for Steve Kornacki to explain to us just wtf is going on every five minutes. Netflix gifted us with the perfect mind-numbing palate cleanser we all so desperately need right now: an entirely predictable rom-com, wrapped up in tinsel. Sacrifice just one of your screens for a couple of hours this weekend, and give your mental state a break with Holidate.

Stream it via Netflix.

‘Killing Eve’

Watch this if you dressed up as a spy for Halloween:

The third season of Killing Eve hit Hulu today, meaning now is the perfect time to watch if you somehow haven’t already. Although it’s difficult to top the near-perfection the first two seasons accomplished, the show’s third installment is still armed with more than enough mystique, drama, and fabulous outfits to still make it dangerously binge-able.

For those of you who missed out on the first two seasons, Killing Eve follows the intelligent (and very bored) MI5 agent Eve (Sandra Oh) and the psychotic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). After being tasked with hunting Villanelle down, Eve realizes that for the first time in her career, she may be matched. So the world’s sexiest game of cat and mouse begins, as the two become increasingly obsessed with each other. If you need something with a bit more substance (and a better wardrobe) than Holidate to get your mind off the news, try Killing Eve instead. Trust me, it’s to die for.

Quarant-reads

‘The Kingdom’ by Jo Nesbo

Read this bc Norwegian crime fiction is the best crime fiction:

The Norwegian king of crime fiction is back — albeit without our favorite detective Harry Hole. Those who are familiar with Jo Nesbo’s work may be disappointed to read a Harry-less mystery, but rest assured — The Kingdom holds its own. Think two brothers, a deadly family secret, arson, a missing sheriff…must I go on? I think you get the picture. Allow Nesbo to transport you straight to Norway with some good ole fashioned escapism and pre-order The Kingdom ASAP. And while you’re waiting for Tuesday, familiarize yourself with my favorite Nesbo novel that does feature Harry, The Snowman.
